It is very common hyper pigmentation seen as symmetrical, light to dark brown patches typically on cheeks, nose, forehead and chin females are affected more than males. Cause of melasma is unclear and multifactorial with genetic and environmental factor playing their role.

Risk factor are: Fair Skin, excersive sun expose pregnancy, exogenous Hormoues, Some Medication and thyroid dysfunction.

Because of so many causes and frequent relapring nature of melasoma, treatment needs to be done by a qualified dermatologist. Various exam and oral medications to medificials and laser skin toning and gold towing are the options available.

Sun protection is must.
